In December 2018, we were notified that the commercial kitchen we rented for nearly four years was closing and terminating all rental contracts effective Dec. 31, 2018.
Our search to rent a new commercial kitchen has been unsuccessful. This little casserole company has grown so much, that the spaces we’ve toured have either been too small, have inadequate equipment or are located too far from our customer base, creating insurmountable logistical and financial challenges.
Building our own commercial kitchen is not an option due to high construction costs and increased competition in the dinner delivery space.
Four years ago, the only dinner delivery options were large, national subscription-based meal kit companies. But now, many grocery stores and online retailers offer grocery and meal delivery.
Competition is fierce and we feel the financial risk is too great to build our own kitchen/store. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close Cream City Casseroles.
Launching Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties’ first dinner delivery service has been an amazing experience. We will miss our fantastic team of meal makers and delivery drivers, as well as our beloved customers.
